01/04/16 – Week 1
Before classes
Considering my last week of preparation was an abject failure, this first week of a new year will be spent with many of the lingering objectives of the last year.
This week's objectives:
- See if any salvage of my laptop is possible
- Update the list of open projects
- Update my display image on dA
- Record a video presentation of the first half of my Senior Thesis Presentation
- Fight with Financial Aid out of custom and habit
- Update the resume my school has on file
- Finalize a seasonal job with my school for the semester
- Prototype the control structure for Solitude
Of particular interest this week is my final objective, “Prototype the control structure for Solitude.” In this last week of Wintersday, I'm going to be spending a lot of time on Guild Wars anyway, I might as well make use of it professionally.
Additionally, to better prepare myself for the coming semester I would like to
- Spend a little time each day on DuoLingo (in preparation for my German 101 course)
- Spend a little time each day on YouTube watching Machine Learning lectures (to get a firmer still grip on my senior thesis which, at this point, is completely at the mercy of data I don't have and can't even attempt to get until the 19th.)
Perhaps not a thrilling first week of the new year but I'm sure I'll have excitement enough when school starts the 19th (week 3.)

01/14/16 – After action report for week 1:
Pretty productive week in the loosest of terms.
Solitude not only has a control structure but in trying to resolve some issues, I found a project online that was, more or less, exactly what I'm trying to do. The catch? The entire project was written in Lua, a language I'm not familiar with yet. This is, I suppose, a good opportunity to learn (yet) another language.
I now have a current and correct list of all my open projects (it's a lot) and I've begun the fighting process with my school. I've still not heard back about the job so I intend to follow up more on that but there's only so much I can do with it, not unlike my senior thesis.
Shortcomings:
Recording any video or producing a new display pic were out of the question because I couldn't get hold of a camera. I know, right? And we live in an age where everyone but me carries a camera in their pocket at all times.
